The Rail Yard Dawgs announced on Thursday that rookies Carter Allen and Thomas Pokorney were invited to Roanoke’s training camp starting in early October.
Allen was a team captain during his last two seasons at SUNY-Oswego (NCAA-DIII). A Lambton Shores, Ontario native, the six-foot defenseman tallied four goals and added 18 assists in 81 career college games. The SUNYAC cancelled the 2020-2021 season, preventing Allen from playing his senior season.
“Carter is a solid, stay-at-home defenseman that comes from one of the best NCAA D-III programs in the country,” said Coach Bremner about Allen. “We’ll be looking to Carter to play a good shut-down role for us and make solid first passes out of the zone to get us transitioning onto offense.”
Pokorney joins the Dawgs after five collegiate seasons at Ohio University of the ACHA. The six-foot-three defenseman played both forward and defenseman in college, recording 20 goals and 32 assists in 112 college games. After graduating in 2020, Pokorney was kept off of the ice last year due to the pandemic.
“Thomas brings good size to our defensive corps, and loves to play a hard, physical game,” said Coach Bremner about Pokorney’s abilities. “I think Tom is a guy that will fit well in the pro game, and I’m excited to see how he transitions from college.”
