DAWGS BRING IN A PAIR OF ROOKIES

Viktor Tuitchenko, Toivo Hannikuinen sign on for training camp

ROANOKE, VA – The Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs announced two more additions to the training camp roster on Thursday as forward Viktor Tuitchenko and defenseman Toivo Hannikuinen have each been signed to a tryout agreements. Both will attempt to make their first professional roster.

Tuitchenko completed his junior eligibility in the 2016-17 season with the Utah Outliers of the Western States Hockey League.  The Russian-born forward netted 31 goals and dished out 29 assists over 28 games played.

Hannikuinen also comes from the WSHL, having spent the last two seasons with the Casper Coyotes and Bellingham Blazers. Over 33 games with Casper and six with Bellingham in 2016-17, Hannikuinen had one goal and five assists. A native of Finland, the defenseman was a teammate of 2016-17 Rail Yard Dawg Dmytro Babenko during the 2015-16 season with Casper.

“We’re glad to have Toivo and Viktor signed on for camp,” Rail Yard Dawgs head coach Sam Ftorek said. “They’ve each shown they can play and compete at the junior level and both bring a lot of talent to the roster.”

The Rail Yard Dawgs will open training camp in early October and begin the 2017-18 season at home against the Fayetteville Marksmen on October 20.
