BRAD BARONE NAMED SPHL PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Goalie went 5-0-1 with 1.51 goals against average and .953 save percentage in February

ROANOKE, VA – The Southern Professional Hockey League announced on Monday that Rail Yard Dawgs goaltender Brad Barone has been named the league’s STX Player of the Month for the month of February.

Barone appeared in six games for the Dawgs in February and went 5-0-1 with a 1.51 goals against average and .953 save percentage. He allowed two goals or fewer in five of his six appearances and his only loss came when he stopped 47 of 50 shots faced in Roanoke’s 4-3 shootout loss to the Mississippi RiverKings on February 24.

The third-year pro out of Boston College leads the SPHL in save percentage at .920 and is fourth with 11 wins and a 2.94 goals against average. Barone was called up to the ECHL’s Greenville Swamp Rabbits on February 27 and made his first career ECHL start on Friday. He stopped 40 of 43 shots faced in the Swamp Rabbits 3-2 overtime loss to the Florida Everblades.

Roanoke hits the ice once again on Friday night in Macon against the Mayhem. Puck drop at the Macon Coliseum is scheduled for 7:35 PM.
