ROANOKE HALTED IN PENSACOLA, 5-2

Rail Yard Dawgs point streak snapped at ten

PENSACOLA, FL – The Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period but Pensacola scored the game’s final five goals as the Ice Flyers defeated the Dawgs, 5-2, Saturday night at the Pensacola Bay Center. Roanoke saw its ten-game point streak snapped in the loss.

The Dawgs got going in the first minute of the opening period as Joe Sova fired a slap shot from the point that Colin Murray redirected on the way through. The puck skipped up and over the shoulder of Brian Billett and Roanoke grabbed an early 1-0 lead.

It would add to that lead later in the period when Phil Bronner raced to a loose puck in the neutral zone and sped in on a breakaway. He dragged the puck to his backhand and roofed it on Billett to extend the advantage to two.

The Ice Flyers cracked back late in the first. Jessyko Bernard got the Pensacola scoring started with a slap shot goal from the right wing circle. Charlie Adams later added a deflection goal to tie the game at two.

Pensacola took the lead for good early in the second when David Mazurek deflected a slap shot from the point and steered it into the net. The Ice Flyers tacked on two more in the third as Ken Neil and Adams each added insurance tallies.

Roanoke fell to 20-20-4 with the loss while Pensacola improved to 28-10-4. The Rail Yard Dawgs hit the ice once again on Friday night in Macon against the Mayhem. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 PM CST at the Macon Coliseum.
