RAIL YARD DAWGS ANNOUNCE PROTECTED LIST

Jackson Brewer, Nick Schneider highlight 13-player protected list

ROANOKE, VA – The Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs announced on Friday their 13-player protected list for the upcoming 2017-18 season.

Per SPHL rules, each team is allowed to protect 13 players from the past season. Those players are then untouchable in the upcoming expansion draft and cannot be signed by other SPHL teams. The remaining players are eligible to be drafted by the Birmingham Bulls in the expansion draft and are eligible to sign with any SPHL team.

Rail Yard Dawgs leading scorer Jackson Brewer headlines the list. In his second professional season he netted 16 goals to go with 25 assists over 43 games played. He is joined by last season’s captain and All-SPHL Second Team defenseman Nick Schneider, who led the league with 17 power play assists and finished with a career-high six goals and 34 assists.

Other notable protected players include Riley Spraggs, who totaled 20 goals and 19 assists over 47 games and goaltenders Ryan de Melo and Ty Reichenbach.
