DAWGS ADD EVAN SCHULTZ, JAKUB BAJANIK

Forward, defenseman signed for training camp

ROANOKE, VA – The Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs announced on Wednesday that forward Evan Schultz and defenseman Jakub Bajanik have each been signed to tryout agreements and will be with the team for training camp beginning in the second week of October.

Schultz joined the Rail Yard Dawgs for the final five games of the 2016-17 season after completing his NCAA career. He tallied three assists and played to a +1 plus-minus rating over his five games for Roanoke. In four years of college hockey for Oswego State University and Salve Regina University, Schultz averaged over a point per game with 27 goals and 50 assists in 71 career games.

“Evan proved while playing in college that he has a great scoring touch,” Rail Yard Dawgs head coach Sam Ftorek said. “We were impressed with how he played last year when he joined us at the end of the season.”

A 21-year-old native of Zilina, Slovakia, Bajanik spent the last two seasons playing for MsHKM Zilina of the Slovakia U20 league. Over 40 games in 2016-17, the 6’2 blueliner put up five goals, 13 assists, 60 PIMs and skated to a plus-30 plus/minus rating.

“Everything about Jakub points to a puck-mover who will play tough and physical whenever the game calls for it,” Ftorek said.

The Rail Yard Dawgs will open training camp on October 11 and begin the 2017-18 season at home against the Fayetteville Marksmen on October 20.
