DAWGS BRING BACK FORWARD STEVE MELE

The Rail Yard Dawgs announced on Thursday that Steve Mele has been signed and will be available on Opening Night against the Fayetteville Marksmen.

Mele played 140 games for the Dawgs between 2016-2019, recording franchise records in career goals (48), assists (73), points (121), and games played (140). The five-foot-eleven forward also set single-season franchise marks in the 2017-2018 season for goals (22), assists (37), and points (59). Mele last suited up for the FPHL’s Danbury Hat Tricks in the 2019-2020 season.

“Steve is an elite player,” said head coach Dan Bremner when asked about Mele. “He has a great skill set and a high hockey IQ. He’s been a big part of building the Dawgs’ foundation, and I’m excited to see him back in a Dawgs sweater tomorrow.”

“I’m so excited to be playing another game in a Roanoke sweater,” said Mele about returning to the Star City. “I visit a lot to see my wife’s family, and have always thought about if I could play one last time. Words can’t explain how excited I am for Friday night.”

Roanoke hits the ice for its first home game in 601 days tomorrow, Friday, October 15 at 7:05 P.M., against the Fayetteville Marksmen. Opening Night is sponsored by Haley Toyota of Roanoke with K92 Radio. Season tickets, packages, group tickets, and single game tickets are on sale now!
