DAWGS BEATEN BY MAYHEM, 4-1

Roanoke falls despite holding Macon to 19 shots

ROANOKE, Va. Cody Dion scored late in the third to help his team avoid being shut out but the Rail Yard Dawgs were defeated by the Macon Mayhem, 4-1, Saturday night at Berglund Center.

Macon started its scoring midway in the second when Jake Trask fired a pass to John Siemer on the back side. He put a shot off the post but Stathis Soumelidis tucked in the rebound to give Macon a 1-0 lead.

It added to that lead later in the second while working on a power play. Derek Sutliffe beat Ben Myers with a wrister high on the glove-catching side and Macon extended the advantage to 2-0.

Dakota Klecha scored to push the lead to three just past the halfway point in the third. Roanoke got on the board late in the third when Dion gathered a rebound and fired it past Jordan Ruby. The Dawgs pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker in the final minute and Klecha was able to wrist the puck into the empty net to push the score to 4-1.

Myers made 15 saves on 18 shots and Ruby stopped 24 of 25 in the win for the Mayhem. The Rail Yard Dawgs fell to 5-8-0 in the loss while Macon improved to 12-2-2. Roanoke will return to action on Thursday night at home against the Birmingham Bulls. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 PM at Berglund Center. The pregame show on the Haley Toyota Rail Yard Dawgs Hockey Network begins at 6:50 PM.
