STEVE MELE NAMED SPHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

­Forward recorded seven assists in Roanoke’s two overtime victories

 

ROANOKE, VA – The Southern Professional Hockey League announced on Tuesday that Rail Yard Dawgs forward Steve Mele has been named as the league’s player of the week for November 13-19. Mele recorded seven assists in the Dawgs two overtime wins during the week.

On Thursday, the center set a new franchise record with five assists as he assisted on each of Roanoke’s last five goals during the 6-5 overtime victory over the Macon Mayhem. Mele then set up the Rail Yard Dawgs first two goals in the 4-3 overtime win over Knoxville on Saturday night, giving him assists on seven consecutive Roanoke goals.

A native of Bronx, NY, Mele is now second in the league with 12 assists on the season and ranks fourth with 13 points. He and the Rail Yard Dawgs return to action on Thursday night at home against the Fayetteville Marksmen. Puck drop for the Thanksgiving game is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
