RAIL YARD DAWGS SIGN TRAVIS ARMSTRONG

Defenseman appeared in 22 games for Roanoke in 2016-17

ROANOKE, VA – The Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs announced on Thursday that defenseman Travis Armstrong has signed an agreement and will be with the team for training camp in October.

Armstrong skated in 22 games for the Rail Yard Dawgs in 2016-17, netting two goals to go with seven assists. He recorded four fighting majors and 39 penalty minutes while logging an even plus-minus rating. Armstrong is an original Rail Yard Dawg, he was selected by Roanoke with the first overall pick in the 2016 expansion draft.

“Having Travis back in the fold is big for our defense,” Rail Yard Dawgs head coach Sam Ftorek said. “He is a strong and physical presence on the back end and we’re glad to have him in camp this fall.”

The 6-5 blueliner spent significant time in the ECHL during the 2016-17 season, appearing in a total 29 games for five separate teams. He finished with one goal, three assists, 33 penalty minutes and a -12 plus minus in his ECHL season. Armstrong spent 16 of his 29 games with the Indy Fuel and also suited up for the Norfolk Admirals, Brampton Beast, Manchester Monarchs and Idaho Steelheads.

The Rail Yard Dawgs will convene for training camp in early October and open the 2017-18 season at home against the Fayetteville Marksmen on October 20.
