Mike Driscoll returned from ECHL Wheeling, Ryan de Melo placed on IR

PEORIA, IL – The Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs have announced a series of transactions in advance of the weekend’s games against the Peoria Rivermen. Forward Mike Driscoll has been returned from loan to the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers, defenseman Nick Schneider has been returned from bereavement leave, defenseman Mike Baker has been placed on waivers, forward Maxim Chegrintsev has been placed on waivers, goaltender Ryan de Melo has been placed on injured reserve and goaltender Joey Ballmer has been signed to a contract.

Driscoll returns to the Dawgs after spending eight games with Wheeling, during which he registered one assist. The Nailers were Driscoll’s second ECHL team this season, as he had also played in three games with the Norfolk Admirals and netted a goal and an assist. In 26 games with Roanoke, he has five goals and four assists.

De Melo has not appeared in each of Roanoke’s last three games after he exited after two periods during an eventual 4-3 overtime loss to Pensacola on 2/18. Over 26 games played he is 9-11-3 with a 3.15 GAA and a .916 save percentage.

The Rail Yard Dawgs will be Ballmer’s first professional team. The Kalamazoo, Michigan native finished his four-year NCAA career at Johnson and Wales University on Monday as his Wildcats fell to Salve Regina, 2-0, in the quarterfinals of the ECAC Northeast playoffs. Ballmer played in all 101 possible games during his collegiate career, going 51-41-9 with a 2.24 GAA and a .928 save percentage.

Schneider missed one game on bereavement leave. He is tied for second on the team in scoring with 27 points. Chegrintsev appeared in 14 games with Roanoke and totaled three goals and one assist. Baker scored a goal in his lone game as a Rail Yard Dawg on Tuesday in Fayetteville.

The Rail Yard Dawgs have also placed Colin Murray on season-ending injured reserve and transferred David Gandara from the 14-day injured reserve to 21-day injured reserve.

Roanoke and Peoria will clash for the first time in franchise history on Friday night. Puck drop at Carver Arena is scheduled for 7:05 PM CST.
