RAIL YARD DAWGS BLANKED BY RIVERMEN, 3-0

James Kruger stops 35 in losing effort

PEORIA, IL – Jeff Jones scored twice, Tyler Parks made 24 saves and the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs were shut out by the Peoria Rivermen, 3-0, Saturday night at Carver Arena. James Kruger stopped 35 of 38 shots for the Dawgs in the losing effort.

Roanoke got in an early hole in the first period as Garret Vermeersch carried the puck over the blue line. He ripped a snap shot past Kruger’s catching glove and the Rivermen took a 1-0 lead.

Peoria added to its advantage late in the second period when the defense could not clear a loose puck in front of Kruger’s crease. Jones poked his stick into the scrum and knocked the puck under Kruger as he reached to cover it and the Rivermen extended their lead to 2-0.

The Peoria lead would swell to three in the third period when Jones applied pressure on the forecheck and took the puck away. He carried it toward the net, deked to his backhand and slid the puck past Kruger for his second goal of the game.

The Rail Yard Dawgs managed 24 shots on goal but could not crack Tyler Parks. They were shut out for the third time this season and the first time since a 4-0 loss to the Evansville Thunderbolts on November 19.

Roanoke lost its third straight and fell to 14-24-6 while Peoria won for the seventh straight game and improved to 25-10-9. The Rail Yard Dawgs and Rivermen will conclude their stretch of three games in three days on Sunday afternoon. Puck drop at Carver Arena is scheduled for 3:05 PM CST.
