ERIC WITZEL NAMED SPHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Center registered five goals, two assists and a +4 rating in Roanoke’s three wins

ROANOKE, VA – The Southern Professional Hockey League announced on Tuesday that Rail Yard Dawgs center Eric Witzel has been named the Warrior Player of the Week for February 5-11. It is Witzel’s first career league player of the week honor.

Witzel registered at least two points in each of Roanoke’s three games this past weekend, all wins. He capped his weekend with a two-goal, one-assist outing in the Dawgs 5-1 win over Knoxville on Saturday. Witzel finished the weekend with five goals, two assists and a +4 plus/minus. Two of his goals during the weekend came on the power play and he turned in a highlight-reel shorthanded goal in the Dawgs win over Fayetteville on Friday.

In 13 games with the Rail Yard Dawgs, Witzel has registered seven goals and three assists. He also played five games for the Peoria Rivermen earlier this season and scored two goals before being released in November.

Roanoke returns to action at home on Friday night against the Huntsville Havoc. The Dawgs will seek their fifth consecutive win at 7:05 PM at Berglund Center.
