Brendan Leahy placed on waivers

ROANOKE, VA – The Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs announced on Tuesday that forward Dmytro Babenko has been loaned to the ECHL’s Norfolk Admirals and that goaltender Brad Barone has been signed to a contract. In addition, goaltender Brendan Leahy has been placed on waivers.

Babenko joins the Admirals after participating in Norfolk’s training camp earlier this month. As a rookie with the Rail Yard Dawgs in 2016-17 he appeared in 52 games and totaled 11 goals and 12 assists. The Kharkiv, Ukraine native will make his first career appearance in the ECHL.

Barone was released by the ECHL’s Greenville Swamp Rabbits on Tuesday after serving as the team’s backup goaltender on Friday night against the South Carolina Stingrays. Barone spent the entirety of the 2016-17 season with the Mississippi RiverKings and went 19-14-2 with a 2.73 GAA and a .913 save percentage.

Roanoke will hit the road for Georgia to take on the defending-champion Macon Mayhem on Friday night at 7:35 PM. The Rail Yard Dawgs next home game will take place on November 3 at 7:05 PM against the Evansville Thunderbolts.
