DAWGS SIGN BERNARD, PLACE ŽEMLIČKA ON IR

PENSACOLA, FL. – The Rail Yard Dawgs announced on Saturday that the team has signed goaltender Sammy Bernard to a player contract, and moved defenseman Vojtech Zemlicka to the 30-day injured reserve list. Bernard will be available for selection in tonight’s game against the Pensacola Ice Flyers.

Bernard joins the Dawgs after he was waived on March 3 by the Knoxville Icebears. The six-foot-five goalie played in six SPHL games this season between Quad City and Knoxville, notching a 3-0-0 record with a 1.98 goals against average and a .937 save percentage. Prior to this season, Bernard had played nine SPHL games in the 2018-2019 season for Pensacola, and spent the 2019-2020 season in Poland with Naprzod Janow. The Lafayette, Colorado native started his college career at Sacred Heart University (NCAA D-I) before transferring to Neumann University (NCAA D-III) for his final two years of eligibility. Bernard will wear number 30 for the Dawgs.

Zemlicka notched two goals and nine assists in 21 games for Roanoke after he changed roles from assistant coach to player back on January 11. He’s played in 216 professional games for ten different teams over the course of six seasons. The Prague, Czech Republic native has suited up in 119 SPHL games during his career, including 61 appearances for Roanoke.

Additionally, Chad Lopez has signed a second player tryout contract with Roanoke.
