DAWGS SHUT OUT BY ICE FLYERS, 5-0

Roanoke puts up 40 shots in losing effort

PENSACOLA Fla. – The Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs outshot the Pensacola Ice Flyers, 40-28, but were unable to crack Brian Billett as they were shut out, 5-0, Saturday night at the Pensacola Bay Center.

The Ice Flyers opened the scoring in the first period. After Roanoke mishandled the puck in front of their own net, Andrew Schmit picked up the loose puck and tucked it around a sprawling Henry Dill, giving Pensacola a 1-0 advantage.

It added to that lead in the second period, again after a Dawgs turnover in front of their net. Joseph Drapluk picked up the loose puck and fed Time Moore for a tap in that made the score 2-0.

Later in the period, Cal Miska gained the zone for Pensacola and ripped a shot wide of the net. It took an odd bounce off the boards and fell in the crease where Eddie Matsushima knocked it in to push the lead to 3-0.

The Ice Flyers added two more in the third, first when Moore sent home a backhander and later on a Matsushima rebound. Despite Roanoke outshooting Pensacola, 40-28, the Dawgs were shut out for the third time this season and fell, 5-0.

Roanoke dropped to 23-21-4 in the loss while Pensacola improved to 21-21-5. The Rail Yard Dawgs will return to action next weekend in Evansville for a pair of games against the Thunderbolts. Friday’s puck drop is scheduled for 7:15 PM CST at the Ford Center.
