Mathias Tellstrom placed on waivers

ROANOKE, VA – The Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs announced on Friday that forward Eric Witzel has been signed to a contract. Additionally, forward Mathias Tellstrom has been placed on waivers.

Witzel opened the season with the Peoria Rivermen where he scored two goals over five games. He was released in November and signed with the FHL’s Cornwall Nationals. With the Nationals, Witzel had eight goals and nine assists over 11 games played.

A second-year pro out of SUNY-Canton, Witzel appeared for three different teams in the 2016-17 season. He began it in the FHL with the Danville Dashers and had nine goals and 15 assists over 22 games. Witzel then joined the Huntsville Havoc and had four goals and seven assists over 17 games played before being released in late March. He was claimed by Peoria and had two goals and four assists over seven games. Witzel was a teammate of Rail Yard Dawgs head coach Dan Bremner during his seven games for the Rivermen in 2016-17.

Tellstrom joined the Dawgs on November 17 and had appeared in 14 games with two goals and one assist.

Roanoke returns to action on Friday night at home against the Pensacola Ice Flyers. Puck drop at Berglund Center is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
