DAWGS FALL SHORT IN FAYETTEVILLE, 4-1

Mike Baker scores first SPHL goal in loss

FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs got a late goal from Mike Baker to avoid being shut out but fell to the Fayetteville FireAntz, 4-1, Tuesday night at the Crown Coliseum.

The FireAntz took an early lead less than three minutes into the game as Justin Hussar beat James Kruger to make it 1-0. Fayetteville padded that advantage later in the period when Tayler Thompson took a pass from Joe Kalisz and shot it past Kruger, extending the lead to 2-0.

Fayetteville managed two more in the second. Thompson netted his second just over six minutes into the period to make it 3-0. He finished with two goals and pushed his SPHL-leading point total to 45.

Brandon Lubin scored with 96 seconds to play in the second period to extend the lead to 4-0. Baker then got the Dawgs on the board at the 11:08 mark of the third period. Signed to a contract before the game, the blueliner’s first SPHL goal cut the deficit to 4-1.

Sean Bonar made 30 saves on 31 shots to earn the victory. Kruger stopped 35 of the 39 shots he saw and was tagged as the losing goaltender.
