ROANOKE, VA. – The Rail Yard Dawgs exploded for four goals in a six-minute span in the middle frame, rolling over the Fayetteville Marksmen 5-1 on Black Friday at Berglund Center. Nick Ford scored twice, while Stephen Alvo, Jake Goldowski, and Dillon Radin added goals for Roanoke.
The first period was all Roanoke, as the hosts outshot Fayetteville 18-6 in the first 20 minutes. Good goaltending by the Marksmen kept Roanoke off the board, but the Dawgs would start the next period on the power play after a penalty in the final second of the first frame. The game was scoreless entering the first intermission.
Roanoke played its best period of the year out of the locker room, starting with a center-point power play missile by Alvo at 0:48. A rebound goal on a great effort by Goldowski, Radin, and Josh Nenadal allowed Goldowski to double the lead at 2:11. Ford scored his first assisted by Nick DeVito and Vizzo at 3:40 to make it 3-0, and then tallied again assisted by the same pair of linemates at 6:48 to make it 4-0 for the Dawgs. That chased Fayetteville’s Jason Pawloski out of the net for the visitors, as he was replaced by Brent Moran. Roanoke took the four-goal cushion into the second intermission.
Radin continued his great hustle by turning a turnover into an unassisted goal at 4:11 in the final period to make it 5-0 for Roanoke. A power play goal by Fayetteville’s D-Jay Jerome at 10:11 killed the Roanoke shutout, but the party was not to be deterred on Star Wars Night. The Dawgs took the four-goal victory to end their three-game losing streak.
Austyn Roudebush stopped 19-of-20 shots faced for Roanoke, while Pawloski recorded 22 saves on 26 shots faced and Moran stopped 14-of-15 shots in net for Fayetteville. Roanoke was 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Marksmen connected on one of their five power play chances.
Roanoke will stay at home next Thursday, December 1 at 7:05 P.M. EST to host the Knoxville Ice Bears at Berglund Center.
