ROANOKE, VA – The Rail Yard Dawgs announced Tuesday that forward/defenseman John Aonso has signed a contract for the 2026-2027 season.
The Toronto, Ontario native returns to Roanoke for his third professional season and second with the Dawgs. The six-foot-two forward/defenseman joined the team last January following a trade with the Fayetteville Marksmen. Aonso recorded nine assists and 71 penalty minutes in 23 regular-season games and added two assists during the 2025-2026 President’s Cup Playoffs.
Following the 2025-2026 season, Aonso played in the AIHL for the Melbourne Ice, tallying three goals, seven assists and 70 penalty minutes in 14 games.
Aonso began his professional career with the Peoria Rivermen, playing in four games before signing with Fayetteville. Over two seasons with the Marksmen, he suited up for 79 games, recording two goals, six assists and 83 penalty minutes.
Roanoke will host the Fayetteville Marksmen to kick off the 2026-2027 season on Friday, October 16, with puck drop set for 7:05 P.M. Season tickets, ticket packages and group tickets are on sale now through the Rail Yard Dawgs front office. Single-game tickets and parking will go on sale Wednesday, September 16, through the Berglund Center box office and online.
